About Chaghcharan City,

In the name of great and almighty Allah!

Cheghcharan also known as Chaqcharan and Chakhcharan, but the correct pronouncing and writing is Chaghcharan. Previously identified as Ahengaran and Kasy.
Chaghcharan is the capital and center of Ghor province since 1340 which is equal to 1961. The most historical book which says about Chaghcharan is Babur Nama that is belongs to Zahiruddin Mohammad Babur Shah who wrote his memories in all over Afghanistan by himself and translated to Dari by many authors (1483 – 1530 Gregorian date). I read this book and like it very much, because he wrote everything truly and local names all noted as their based names.
Chaghcharan has shared borders with Jawand district of Badghis province, Dulaina and Shahrak districts of Ghor in the west, Charsada district of Ghor and Kohestanat district of Sare Pul Province to the north, Lal and Dowlatyar districts of Ghor and Sang Takht district of Daykundy province to the east and also Dulaina district of Ghor province is to the south.
Approximately 678 villages and sub-villages are located into Chaghcharan and around 165900 people are living in this city (as urban and rural).
Chaghcharan is not a town, it is a city. Chaghcharan is not a desert it is an area. Chaghcharan is not belongs to anyone, it is belongs to all people of Ghor and who are specially living in this valley.
Many historical and ancient places and forts are located in Chaghcharan environs, such as:

Forts:

  1.     Ahengaran Fort,

  2.     Zohak Fort

  3.     Badgah Fort/ligament,

Canyons:

  1.     Qazy Canyon,

  2.     Zardtalay Canyon,

  3.     Qotos Canyon,

  4.     Morghab valley and Canyons

  5.     Kargoosh Canyon (it also known as Gul Dara “Canyon of Flower”) which is named by Mohammad Hanif Khan the first governor of Ghor province during the governance of Mohammad Zaher Shah (the last King of Afghanistan and also called as father of nation during the presidency of Mr. Hamed Karzay).

  6.     Shawij and Lafra Canyons….

Two famous rivers of Afghanistan is sourcing and passing from Chaghcharan and pouring to other provinces of the Afghanistan (Herat and Badghis) and even to neighborhood countries (Iran and Turkmenistan), such as,
Rivers:

  1.     Heray Rud (river of Heray) Heray Rud is passing from the center and navel of Chaghcharan and following to Herat and also to Turkmenistan and Iran countries. The name of Herat derived from Heray….

  2.     Morghab Rud (river of Morghab).

Chaghcharan is located between two famous mountains of the country and kept it as beautiful valley, like:

Mountains:

  1.     Safid Koh (White Mountain) to the north of Chaghcharan

  2.     Siah Koh (Black Mountain) to the south of Chaghcharan

Appellation of Chaghcharan Name:
Many of the people are claiming that Chaghcharan is a Turkmen word, but, I am rejecting this claiming.
Chaghcharan is a combined noun – name, which is formed/derived from Chagh or Chigh which is a kind of tent that people are spinning from the branch of sallow tree for living into it, locally call (Chagh Tent) and Charan means pasture (area of grasses). The above mentioned words (Chagh and Charan) are net words of Dari and Persian (refer to Dekhoda Persian Dictionary).
